Visual Speech in Technology-Enhanced Learning

This project investigates the use of a synthetic talking head, with lip and face movements synchronized with synthesized or digitized speech, in technology-enhanced learning. The talking head is applied in a pronunciation training application for second language learning. The results of the evaluations will be instrumental in identifying the benefit of visual speech, and will underpin further development of the approach.

This work is sponsored by the EPSRC and ESRC.
